    National Symposium on Innovative Development of Academic Journals in Tropical Medicine was successfully held in Hefei
  • From October 25 to 26, 2025, National Institute of Parasitic Diseases, Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention (National Research Center for Tropical Diseases) (hereinafter referred to as "NIPD") held the National Symposium on Innovative Development of Academic Journals in Tropical Medicine in Hefei, Anhui Province, with the theme of "Enhancing Topic Selection and Planning, and Leading Disciplinary Development." A total of 25 participants attended this symposium, including Prof. CHEN Jibin, Vice Chief of Department of Journal Management, Chinese Preventive Medicine Association; Prof. ZHENG Bin, Deputy Director of NIPD; Prof. ZHOU Xiaonong, Chief Scientist in Parasitic Disease Prevention and Control at Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention; Prof. CAO Zhiguo, Deputy Director of Anhui Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention; as well as editors-in-chief, managing editors, and editors from 12 academic journals related to tropical medicine. The symposium was jointly organized by Journal Editorial Department of NIPD and Editorial Department of Journal of Tropical Diseases and Parasitology. Prof. CHEN Qin, Vice Chief of Journal Editorial Department of NIPD, and Prof. WANG Tianping, Chief Public Health Scientist of Anhui Province and Editor-in-Chief of Journal of Tropical Diseases and Parasitology, hosted the opening ceremony and the experience-sharing session, respectively.

    At the opening ceremony, Prof. CAO Zhiguo, ZHENG Bin, and CHEN Jibin delivered speeches to express their ardent expectations for the symposium, respectively. Prof. CHEN Jibin emphasized that strengthening topic selection and planning is a crucial approach to increasing the quality of journal content, which facilitates improvements of the journal academic level and impact, and guidance of the disciplinary development.

    Prof. ZHOU Xiaonong, founding Editor-in-Chief of Infectious Diseases of Poverty and Science in One Health, and Prof. WANG Shanqing, Editor-in-Chief of China Tropical Medicine, delivered keynote lectures entitled "Tropical medicine research in China: Current status, challenges, and future " and "Improving journal quality and impact through effective topic selection and planning", respectively. Managing editors of participating journals shared their countermeasures and experiences in topic selection and planning. Then, all participants engaged in discussions on how to further refine topic selection and planning, enhance manuscript quality, and foster innovative development. Finally, Prof. ZHENG Bin gave a concluding remark of the symposium. She highly appraised the consensus reached during the symposium, and expressed her expectations that all journals would continue to strengthen exchanges and collaborations and jointly improve the journal quality and levels, aiming to build a high-quality academic exchange platform for tropical disease prevention, control, and research.
