Abstract: Hemozoin(malaria pigment)is a byproduct of malaria parasites due to hemoglobin digestion, which can stimulate host′s innate inflammatory responses. However, data from different studies are controversial about how hemozoin is recognized by the host′s pattern recognition receptors. This article reviews the recent progress in the area.
