ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF HUMAN INTESTINAL PARASITES IN HUANGYUAN COUNTY, QINGHAI PROVINCE

Abstract: Huangyuan County, one of the counties undertaking agriculture,of Haidong Profecture, Qinghai, is adjacent to pasturage area, and has complicated topography. Its climate is cha racteristic of the plateau type. To keep pace with the Nationwide Survey of Human Parasite Distribution, two townships, Riyue and Dahua were selected as pilot sites for performing fecal examination. Of 1 039 people examined, 429 were found to harbor parasites, the infection rate being 41.3%. The infection rates of 9 detected parasites were noted as: Ascaris lumbricoides 29.0%, Enterobius vermicularis (below 12 years old) 38.7%, Entamoeba coli 8.1% , Endolimax nana 4.3%, Iodamoeba buetschlii 2.2%, Giardia lamblia 1.7%, Blastocystis hominis 1.4%, Entamoeba hartmanni 0.9%, and Entamoeba histolytica 0.5%. Significant differences of infection rates were showed between groups of different ages, sexes, and also of different occupations (pupils were more vulnerable than others).
