Abstract: Based on the unified requirements and standardized methods determined by the Nationwide Survey of Human Parasite Distribution,a sampling investigation of human parasites was carried out on 4 spots in Xining in 1989. Eleven species of human parasites were detected by fecal examination, namely: Ascaris lumbricoides (40.7%), pinworm (13.0%, children under 12 years old), Trichuris trichiura (1.8%), Entamoeba histolytica (0.05%), Entamoeba coli (1.7%), Iodamoeba buetschlii (0.2%), Endolimax nana (5.4%), Entamoeba hartmanni (0.1%) , Giardia lamblia (4.2%), Blastocystis hominis (0.6%), Trichomonas hominis (0.05%) . The parasite infection rates on the 4 spots were 78.0%,46.4%, 34.7%, 24.9%,respectively, revealing significant differences between males(45.8%) and female (48.5%) . Parasitism with 1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 species of parasite was recorded as 76.8%, 19.8%, 2.5%, 0.7% and 0.1%, respectively. The highest infection rate of parasite was observed in the age group of 5-19 years old. It is clear that the prevention and treatment of human intestinal parasitic infections should be further carried out, especially in the juveniles and younger children.
