AN INVESTIGATION ON HUMAN PARASITE DISTRIBUTION IN HUNAN PROVINCE

Abstract: A total of 63 794 people on 120 pilot spots of 30 counties/cities were included in a survey of human parasites in Hunan, the procedures being in accordance with the nationwide undertaking by using random sampling. The overall infection rate was found to be 76.7% according to fecal examination. Among the 26 species of parasites discovered, the infection rates of Ascaris lumbricoides and hookworm were 67.7% and 22.9%, respectively. Six species of parasites comprising Rhabditis axei, Trichostrongylus orientalis, Echinostoma sp., Endolimax nana, Entamoeba hartmanni and Chilomastix mesnili were the first records in Hunan.
