HUMAN PARASITE DISTRIBUTION IN SHANDONG PROVINCE

Abstract: Integrated into the Nationwide Survey of Human Parasite Distribution, an investigation at provincial level was conducted in Shandong, involving 161 pilot sites located in 13 prefectures/cities and 35 counties/districts. The result showed parasitic infections in 48 081 out of 85 417 people experienced fecal examination, the overall infection rate being 62.9%. The detected species of parasites comprised 6 species of nematodes,2 species for each of trematodes and taeniae, and 9 species of protozoa. Hookworm, Ascaris lumbricoides, Trichuris trichiura, Enterobius vermicularis, Taenia solium, Clonorchis sinensis,Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia showed high infection rates and wide distribution in people. The prevalence and distribution trends of different parasitic infections were analysed, which could be taken as basis for formulation of control strategies and measures in the province.
