Abstract: Fecal specimens collected from 9 156 people in 18 sites of 9 counties in the eastern agricultural areas of Qinghai Province were examined according to the defined regulations of the “Nationwide Survey of Human Parasite Distribution”. The total infection rate was 54.0%. Polyparasitism was revealed in 23.4% of the infected people. The 15 species of parasites detected in the survey included 6 species of helminths with the highest infection rate of 43.5% for Ascaris lumbricoides , and 9 species of protozoa with the highest infection rate of 8.3% for Entamoeba coli . The features of human intestinal parasite infections and distribution were summarized as follows: Residents under 15 years old showed high incidence; the infection rate was significantly higher in females than in males; the minorities were more severely affected; parasite species and incidence were obviously different with topography, hydrography and altitude. Generally, the infection rate had a tendency to escalate from northwest to southeast of the investigated area.
