Abstract: The fecal specimens from 52 042 individuals in 100 villages from 23 counties of Jiangxi Province were examined from 1988 to 1989. The prevalence of Ascaris infection in populations was 71.2%, but the intensity of infection in most infected individuals (68.9%) was low (EPG5 000). Among 23 counties investigated, 19 (82.0%) with prevalence of Ascaris infection more than 80% was considered as highly endemic areas of this parasite. The results showed that the prevalence of Ascaris infection was higher in females (73.4%) than in males (69.0%). And the prevalence in different age groups varied with the peak at age group of 5-19 years old. Nevertheless, the infection rate was still high (65.1%) in the eldest persons of 70 years old, though EPG showed a decline trend with the increase of age.
