Abstract: An investigation on hookworm infection was pursued on 100 spots of 23 counties/cities in Jiangxi Province during 1988-1989. A hookworm infection rate of 17.6% was recorded in 52 042 people with the highest rate (29.3%) in Gannan prefecture, and the lowest (6.3%) in Shangyao prefecture, showing EPG of 850 for the former, and 262 for the latter. A trend of increase of incidence with the upgrading of age was indicated. The infection rate in females (18.7%) was significantly higher than that in males (16.6%) (χ 2=38.14, P 0.01). Species identification revealed ratios of 1∶2.1 and 1∶2.8 for Ancylostoma duodenale versus Necator americanus , in Gannan and Yichun prefectures, respectively. However, A. duodenale is the predominant species in other three prefectures.
