SURVEY ON HUMAN PARASITE INFECTIONS IN THE SUBURBS OF ZHAOQING CITY, GUANGDONG PROVINCE

Abstract: A survey of human parasites by fecal examination using iodine-stained smear method, Kato-Katz method, adhesive-tape scraping method and fecal culture was made in 4 selected sites of the suburbs of Zhaoqing city, Guangdong province. Of 2060 inhabitants examined, 82.6%-86.6% were found to be infected with intestinal parasites. Multiple infection with 2, 3 and 4 species were 36.1%, 14.6% and 1.8% respectively. Altogether 16 species of parasites were detected, of which, 10 were firstly recorded in this locality, comprising Strongyloides stercoralis, Heterophyidae, Metago-nimus yokogawai, Echinostomatides, Fasciolopsis buski, Entamoeba coli, Entamoeba hartmanni, Iodamoeba buetschlii, Giardia lamblia, Balantidium coli.
