Abstract: A survey of Echinococcus species in wild animals was carried out in Qinghai Province. Pseudois nayaur , and Procapra picticaudata were discovered for the first time to be the intermediate hosts of Echinococcus species in the Qing Zang plateau, showing infection rates of 6.4% and 6.6%, respectively. The evidence of Echinococcus parasitism was supplemented by histopathological and immunological examinations. Considering the geographical distribution and environmental conditions of habitats where the above wild animals live, presumption is made that there exists a cycle of Echinococcus species in the wild lives either irrespective of or mixed with the cycle among domestic animals. The survey provides a clue to the exploration of natural nidi of Echinococcus species in Qinghai and important epidemiological data regarding animal Echinococcus infection as well.
