Abstract: In 1989-1991 a survey of intestinal helminthic infections was undertaken in 60 pilot sites of 21 counties in Inner Mongolia, involving a total of 30 713 inhabitants. The survey disclosed 5 species of nematode and one species of cestode, i.e., Ascaris lumbricoides, Enterobius vermicularis, Trichuris trichiura, Ancylostoma duodenale, and unidentified tapeworm; the infection rates being 16.6%, 5.2%, 0.2%, 0.07%, and 0.2%, respectively. A. duodenale was the first record in the Region. Analysis on various factors which might exert impact on the prevalence of intestinal parasitoses indicated occurrence of higher infection rates in warm pastures and economic developing areas, as well as in children, females, and some minorities.
