Abstract:

This paper reports a rare case of hepatic echinococcosis with detection of Rhizopus delemar DNA sequences. The patient was a 35-year-old female who was admitted to the hospital due to the detection of a space-occupying lesion in the liver. Serum immunological tests indicated positive results for anti-Echinococcus IgG antibody. Postoperative pathological examination revealed multiple cystic lesions in the liver, which contained grayish-yellow tofu-like necrotic materials. Microscopic observation showed residual shadows of spherical spore-like structures and calcification. Metagenomics Capture on Pathology further identified the pathogen as Echinococcus canadensis and detected Rhizopus delemar DNA sequences. Moreover, genotyping confirmed that the hydatid cyst was of the G7 genotype (porcine strain), which is relatively rare in China. The patient underwent robot-assisted resection of the right posterior lobe and segment S8 of the liver, and received symptomatic treatments including anti-infection and liver-protective therapy postoperatively. The patient recovered completely and was discharged after surgery.
