PRELIMINARY INVESTIGATION ON THE DISTRIBUTION OF HUMAN PARASITES IN GANSU PROVINCE

Abstract: Inhabitants of 28 687 in 67 villages of 19 counties, Gansu province were investigated for intestinal parasite infection. There were 19 species including 9 protozoa, 6 nema-todes, and 5 trematodes detected. Of these, 6 species are common ones in Gansu province. The infection rates for respective species were as follows: Ascaris lumbricoides 36.1%, Enterobius vermicularis 12.2%, Trichuris trichiura 2%, Entamoeba coli 3.9%, Entamoeba histolytica 1.8% and Giardia lamblia 1.1%; 6 rarely seen species in the locality were hookworm, Paragonimus westermani, Endolimax nana, lodamoeba bue-tschlii and Balantidium coli; 8 species were detected in Gansu for the first time, namely Strongyloides stercoralis, Clonorchis sinensis, Fasciola hepatica, Fasciolopsis buski, Dicrocoelium lancealum, E. hartmanni, Trichomonas hominis and Blastocystis hominis.
