Abstract: An investigation on hookworm infection was pursued in 4 pilot areas of Zhang-zhou, Fujian Province. Using Kato-Katz method, the mean hookworm infection rate was recorded 67.8% in 2069 people. A trend of increase of incidence with the upgrading of age was indicated, but the decline of the incidence in age group above 70 was an exception, which was attributed to the frequency of farming labor. The result of larva cultivation evidenced a proportion of 67% for Ancylostoma duodenale, 13% for Necator americanus and 20% for mixed infection. Species identification revealed a ratio of 2.6:1 for A. duodenale versus Necator americanus, demonstrating A. duodenale is the predominant species of hookworm in Zhangzhou.
