Abstract: A total of 6898 inhabitants of Jingxian County and Lingshou County of Shijiazhu-ang were examined for intestinal parasite infections. Ten species of parasites were detected during the survey. The infection rates for ascarid and pin worm were 28.8% and 7.6%, respectively, whereas that for other parasites ranged from 0.02% to 0.4%. Residents of Jinxian County, a plain area, exhibited an infection rate of 28.8%, while those of Lingshou County, a hilly region, had an infection rate of 34.6% (P0.01). The town dwellers in both counties showed an average infection rate of 16.3 %, being significantly different from that of 38.2% for the rural population (P0.001). The infection rate of 62.4% in pre-school children was the highest one, as compared with that in the other groups.
