Abstract: A survey of intestinal parasites was conducted by faecal examination in 606 individuals in Wuningbatu township of Ximengbaiqi. The overall infection rate (excluding peri-anal swab for 170 children) was 21.4%. Seven species of parasites were detected, namely: Ascarts (6.6%), Trichuris trichiura (2.2%), hookworm (0.8%), Enterobius vermicularis (1%), Entantoeba coli (10.1%), and Entamoebahistolytica (1.6%), while taenia was only detected from one person. The age group 16-19 years showed the highest infection rate (39.5%). The difference in infection rate between different age groups was significant (P0.05), while that between sexes and nationalities was not so (P0.06).Using anal swabs, the pin worm infection rate was 22.9% in 170 children under 16 years of age and that for 6-9 years reached 35.7%. No significant difference in infection rate between different ages, sexes and nationalities was found.None of the 485 children above 2 years of age showed a positive reaction in the Casoni's intradermal test.
